On Thursday, Webb County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a white Jeep Liberty at the intersection of Ejido Avenue and Columbia Drive, two blocks away from Honore Ligarde Elementary School.

As the deputy was making contact with the driver, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana. Upon checking the vehicle, the deputy found 2.87 pounds of marijuana wrapped in cellophane paper inside the vehicle. A scale was also found inside the Jeep.

The driver was identified as Rigoberto Izaguirre, 29. A female and a child were also inside the vehicle. The street value of the marijuana is approximately $500.00. Izaguirre was arrested and transported to the Webb County Jail in lieu of no bond, pending magistration.

“I congratulate our deputies for a job well done. These drugs are known to be part of organized crime. These are the people who are poisoning our young children and they prey on the most vulnerable. This is why I remind all parents to always know the whereabouts of their children. We need to keep an eye on our neighborhoods and report any suspicious activities. As your Sheriff, I stand committed to protecting you and your families, and will do everything in my reach to keep our neighborhoods safe. If you know of any crimes being committed, please call our “Report Your Competition” hotline at 956-415- BUST (2878),” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
