U.S. Border Patrol agents prevented a significant amount of narcotics from being smuggled into the country.

The incident occurred during the late morning hours of March 26, when agents assigned to the Laredo South Station received a report of several individuals returning to Mexico after crossing the Rio Grande River near El Cenizo, Texas.  The agents responded to the area and discovered three bundles of marijuana hidden underneath carrizo cane near the river.  With the assistance of the Laredo Sector Marine Unit, agents were able to seize the bundles.

The marijuana weighed approximately 221 pounds with an estimated street value of over $176,880.  The marijuana will turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
