The City of Laredo Health Department has teamed up with Bright by Text to bring their program to the Laredo and Webb County community. The Bright by Text program is offered in other communities around the nation and offers parents and caregivers expert tips and resources for children from prenatal to eight (8) years of age.

There are so many social determinants (housing, nutrition, education, healthcare, daycare, family, violence) affecting children that can impact their growth and development, especially during the early years of a child’s brain development (prenatal to 8 years old). This is when the brain develops the fastest than at any other point in their life. The interactions that a child has with adult caregivers at this stage of their life sets the foundation for later learning, behavior, and health.

Bright by Text helps parents and caregivers make the most out of these interactions by illustrating fun and easy activities, providing positive parenting tips and resources, tips for aiding a child’s physical development, and much more. The program is proven to build nurturing caregiver-child relationships, and positively impact a child’s healthy development and school readiness. Bright by Text includes expert content includes messages about events and resources specific to Laredo and Webb County, such as free family events, health clinics, immunizations, educational, social services and preschool open enrollment. The program is also available in Spanish.

To sign up, parents and caregivers with children under eight can text the #Texas kids to 274448*. They will receive two to five text messages per week, and each message will include a link to a landing page with additional details, short modeling videos, and links to related resources.
